In collaboration with St. Lucie County and the City of Fort Pierce, In the Image of Christ is set to manage an emergency cold weather shelter at Percy Peek Gym, located at 2902 Ave. D. This initiative responds to a forecast by the National Weather Service indicating that temperatures across the Treasure Coast will fall to the low 40s from Tuesday, Jan. 7 through Thursday, Jan. 9.

The shelter will operate from 5 p.m. to 8 a.m. each day during this period. To assist those in need of transportation to the shelter, Area Regional Transit (ART) will offer free transport services from designated locations starting at 6 p.m., tentatively concluding at 8 p.m.

For additional details regarding the emergency cold weather shelter at Percy Peek Gym, individuals can reach out to Pastor Hazel Hoylman with In the Image of Christ at 772-359-9653.

Residents are advised to bring their pets indoors during these cold nights. St. Lucie County’s Animal Safety staff emphasizes that it is illegal to leave pets tethered outside unsupervised, irrespective of the temperature.
