In collaboration with St. Lucie County and the City of Fort Pierce, In the Image of Christ will manage an emergency cold weather shelter at Percy Peek Gym, located at 2902 Ave. D. This initiative comes as the National Weather Service forecasts temperatures on the Treasure Coast to fall to the low 40s overnight on Tuesday, January 7, and Wednesday, January 8.

The shelter will operate from 5 p.m. to 8 a.m. daily during this period. Area Regional Transit (ART) will provide free transportation to the temporary shelter from various locations starting at 6 p.m., with services tentatively concluding at 8 p.m.

For additional details regarding the shelter, individuals can reach out to Pastor Hazel Hoylman with In the Image of Christ at 772-359-9653.

Residents are advised to bring pets indoors during these cold nights. St. Lucie County’s Animal Safety staff emphasizes that it is illegal to leave pets tethered outside unsupervised, irrespective of temperature conditions.
