Planned events include Freedomfest, summer camps (teen camp, tot camp, and youth camp), Eagles football camp, junior basketball, adult and coed softball, wrestling mini-camp, dance classes (including line dancing), Zumba, karate, fitness classes, M & M sweeties sessions, senior dance events, Poképark gym challenge, geocaching activities, community garage sales, girls flag football league, art class and art camp among others.
The National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) has celebrated Park and Recreation Month in July for nearly 40 years to recognize the contributions of industry professionals to communities across the country.
Port St. Lucie boasts nearly 50 unique parks and recreational facilities offering numerous opportunities to relax, play, exercise or enjoy the Florida sunshine. The city's Parks and Recreation Department also hosts special events year-round that attract both residents and visitors.
“We strive to provide residents with resources that can help improve their social, physical and mental health through recreational activities and shared public spaces that foster a sense of community," said Brad Keen, Acting Director of Port St. Lucie Parks and Recreation Department. "In recognition of Park and Recreation Month," he added "we encourage people to take advantage of these resources and enjoy everything the City has to offer.”
NRPA alongside the City’s Parks and Recreation Department encourages supporters to share how parks have fostered belonging on social media using #WhereYouBelong.
