St. Lucie County students from kindergarten through 12th grade are invited to participate in the "Drop Savers" poster contest, which encourages creativity around water conservation ideas. The event is open to public, private, and home-schooled students.
Entries for the contest must be submitted by February 28, 2025. Students can submit their posters online or arrange for a pick-up by contacting Jenny Tomes at (772) 618-3142. The rules and guidelines for submissions are available in a PDF document.
The Port St. Lucie Utility Systems is organizing this event in collaboration with the Florida Section American Water Works Association (FSAWWA). According to the organizers, "The contest teaches elementary-aged school children, and reminds middle- and high school-aged teens, about the importance of water conservation." They believe that education and awareness programs offer the best opportunity for long-term water conservation efforts.
Jenny Tomes, Assistant Manager-USD Community Outreach, is offering to speak to classes about water conservation's significance and help inspire poster ideas. To schedule a presentation with her, contact her at (772) 618-3142.
City of Port St. Lucie employees will evaluate the posters based on their message, creativity, and originality. A winner will be selected from each participating grade level. Winners will receive a $25 Walmart gift card along with other prizes and will be recognized during a special presentation at a City Council meeting.
The winning entries from this local contest will advance to compete in the statewide "Drop Savers" poster contest scheduled for mid-April.
