West Palm Beach, Fla. — U.S. Congressman Brian Mast (FL-21) expressed his support for the impeachment of Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. Mast's statement comes after he and two other Palm Beach area representatives faced mechanical issues that caused them to miss the vote.
In his statement, Mast criticized Mayorkas for his handling of border security, stating, "Secretary Mayorkas’s job is to secure the border. Not only is he horrible at his job, he is willfully refusing to do it. He has abandoned the trust of the American people, and he deserves to be impeached."
Last week, Mast voted in favor of impeaching Secretary Mayorkas. However, due to the flight delay caused by a broken circuit board, he was unable to participate in the most recent vote. Mast shared his frustration in a video he released while waiting at the Palm Beach airport.
In the video, Mast said, "Hey everybody, Congressman Brian Mast here sitting here at the Palm Beach airport on about hour nine of waiting for a flight with a broken circuit board. [I'm] hoping to get off the ground soon, but they did just call votes in the House of Representatives as they normally do at this time, and it looks like I'm going to miss the vote to impeach Mayorkas."
Mast acknowledged that he had been present for the first impeachment vote and had voted in favor of it. He also mentioned that there were other Palm Beach representatives, including Lois Frankel, who were also present at the airport and would miss the vote.
The statement from Mast highlights his strong stance against Secretary Mayorkas and his commitment to holding him accountable for what Mast perceives as a failure to fulfill his responsibilities.
As the debate over border security continues, Mast's support for the impeachment of Mayorkas adds to the growing calls for action and accountability within the Department of Homeland Security.
