The City of Port St. Lucie Parks & Recreation Department is organizing a virtual public information meeting to provide an update on the O.L. Peacock Sr. Park conceptual master plan. The meeting will focus on the Land Water Conservation Fund Grant application for phase 2 of the project. This grant is a crucial step in obtaining approval for the park's development.

The virtual meeting will take place on Thursday, Jan. 25, from 6-8 p.m. Interested individuals are required to register in advance. The purpose of the meeting is to review the early concepts and surveys for O.L. Peacock Sr. Park, which was initially designed in 2021. The project team from the City of Parks and Recreation will inform residents about the grant opportunity that, if awarded, will fund additional amenities previously developed through the public engagement process.

According to the approved O.L. Peacock Sr. Park Development Conceptual Master Plan, the phase 2 amenities will include restrooms, a large pavilion, bike racks, fencing, a portion of the proposed nature trail around the lake, a wetland boardwalk trail, and a kayak launch area/bank restoration. These amenities will complement the phase 1 construction, which is already underway and funded in part by a $200,000 Florida Recreation Development Assistance Program Grant.

Phase 1 of the project, set to be completed in mid-2025, includes upland trail loops, landscaping and irrigation, a new entryway, on-street parking, benches, trash cans, entryway signage, wayfinding signage, open field space, a small playground, and small pavilions.

The completion of phase 2 amenities will be determined upon potential Land Water Conservation Fund Grant approval. However, it is anticipated that this phase will not be completed until late 2026 or early 2027. The entire project area, which spans 165 acres, will transform O.L. Peacock Sr. Park into a premier recreational destination.

Residents are encouraged to attend the virtual meeting to learn more about the project and have their questions answered. A copy of the presentation will be made available on the City's website after the meeting.
