From February 2, 2023 post.
Today we kick off Black History Month by paying tribute to one of our own, Captain Pat Duval.
Hired in 1954, Pat Duval was St. Lucie County's first black deputy and the first person of color to hold a rank within the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office. He was promoted to the head of the detective bureau in 1973, and he retired at the rank of Captain in 1985 after 31 years of service.
Captain Duvall died in 2020 at the age of 100. The Captain Pat Duval Community Substation on Juanita Avenue in Fort Pierce is named in his honor....#BlackHistoryMonth #BlackHistoryMonth2023
