The City of Port St. Lucie is set to launch a new initiative aimed at assisting local businesses in enhancing their building facades. The Commercial Façade Improvement Grant Program will provide financial support to business owners for the restoration, renovation, or improvement of commercial facades. This funding comes from a federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG).
Business owners can receive up to $10,000 through a matching grant. The program covers 50% of the improvement costs, with business owners responsible for the remaining 50%. For instance, if a project such as purchasing new doors and an awning totals $20,000, the business owner can apply for reimbursement of $10,000.
This program aims to assist property owners or tenants of commercial buildings in improving storefront appearances. Enhancing visual appeal in commercial districts can stimulate economic activity and attract customers by improving area aesthetics.
Applications open on March 4, 2025, at 9 a.m. and close on March 25, 2025, at 5 p.m. A public information session is scheduled for February 25 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at City Hall located at 121 SW Port St. Lucie Blvd., Port St. Lucie.
Eligible businesses must be within the city's official CDBC Census Tracts. Business owners can verify their location using an interactive online map available at link.cityofpsl.com/CDBGMap.
"The City of Port St. Lucie is committed to enhancing the vitality of our commercial areas," stated city officials regarding the initiative's goals.
