The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has extended the deadline for Florida residents to apply for assistance following Hurricanes Milton and Helene. The new deadline is January 7, 2025.
Floridians who experienced losses due to these hurricanes may qualify for financial aid from FEMA. This assistance can cover displacement, basic home repairs, personal property losses, and other disaster-related expenses that are not covered by insurance.
Applications can be submitted online at DisasterAssistance.gov or through the FEMA App. Residents can also apply by calling 800-621-3362. Phone lines are open daily with support available in multiple languages. Those using relay services or captioned telephones should provide their service number to FEMA. An accessible video guide on applying for assistance is available on YouTube under "FEMA Accessible: Applying for Individual Assistance."
Applicants who suffered damage from both Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton must file separate applications for each event, including specific dates of damage.
For ongoing updates about recovery efforts, individuals can visit fema.gov/disaster/4834 for Hurricane Milton and fema.gov/disaster/4828 for Hurricane Helene. Information regarding Hurricane Debby is available at fema.gov/disaster/4806. Updates are also shared on social media platforms X and Facebook via @femaregion4 and facebook.com/fema respectively.
