The City of Port St. Lucie is inviting high school students to join the Port St. Lucie Youth Council, a platform for young residents to express their views and contribute to community decisions. Students in grades 9-12 who reside in Port St. Lucie are eligible to apply by June 14 through the website www.cityofpsl.com/youthcouncil.

Established in 2023, the Youth Council aims to involve young people in local governance, offering them opportunities to learn about municipal operations, earn community service hours, develop leadership skills, and engage in public speaking. The council also provides a channel for students to share their feedback with city leaders.

The inaugural Youth Council included nine students from seven schools across St. Lucie County, along with representatives from the St. Lucie County Boys and Girls Clubs and the St. Lucie Roundtable. Notable activities undertaken by the group include representing Port St. Lucie at an All-America City award event in Denver, participating in the Florida League of Cities Youth Conference in Orlando, traveling to Tallahassee for Legislative Action Days, and hosting a booth at the City of Port St. Lucie's Citizen Summit.

In addition, they successfully advocated for an end-of-school-year event known as the Big Summer Blowout, which will be held on May 30 at Minsky Gym from noon to 4:30 p.m., featuring food, drinks, music, field-day contests, prizes, and more.
