The City of Port St. Lucie has made two crucial flood reports available online for residents to better protect themselves from flooding. According to a statement, well-informed residents make better decisions when it comes to flood preparedness, and these reports aim to assist in that effort.
The reports in question, the Local Mitigation Strategy Progress Report and the Program for Public Information Evaluation Report, were developed by the St. Lucie County Unified Local Mitigation Strategy Working Group. Residents can access these planning documents on the City’s Flood webpage by visiting www.CityofPSL.com/Flood and clicking on the “Annual Reports” tab.
Port St. Lucie has actively participated in the National Flood Insurance Program’s Community Rating System since 1991. As a result of the City's involvement, it has improved its rating to Class 5 within the program. This upgrade from the previous Class 8 rating will lead to tangible benefits for residents. The City's higher rating means that residents can expect a 10-25% discount on their flood insurance premiums renewals, as long as the City maintains this improved rating.
