A new interactive art installation has made its way to the MIDFLORIDA Event Center in Port St. Lucie, offering visitors a unique and engaging experience. The installation, titled "Trumpet Flowers," features 27 illuminated sculptures shaped like long-stemmed flowers in full bloom. Each sculpture has a corresponding "trumpet key" that, when pushed, plays the sounds of a trumpet, tuba, trombone, or drum, creating a symphonic and visual spectacle.
The purpose of "Trumpet Flowers" is to bring people together and inspire a sense of play and wonder. Mary Savage-Dunham, the Planning and Zoning Director, expressed her enthusiasm for the artwork, stating, "Creative, interactive works such as 'Trumpet Flowers' offer unique ways to engage members of our community in public art. It allows people to use their own creativity, connect with others around them, and enjoy the outdoor spaces Port St. Lucie has to offer."
The artwork was created by Amigo & Amigo, an Australia-based art studio known for their expertise in interactive public art. Their installations have been featured across the globe, including in Australia, Asia, South America, Europe, and the United States.
"Trumpet Flowers" will be on display at the MIDFLORIDA Event Center from December 22, 2023, to January 24, 2024. This installation marks the first temporary art piece as part of the City of Port St. Lucie's Art in Public Places Master Plan. The plan aims to establish a strong foundation for art that can be enjoyed throughout the city.
In recent years, Port St. Lucie has embraced public art, with outdoor installations, sculptures, murals, and galleries popping up across the city. The Art in Public Places program, which funds projects like "Trumpet Flowers," is supported by fees on developers, ensuring that no taxpayer dollars are used.
The arrival of "Trumpet Flowers" adds another vibrant and interactive element to Port St. Lucie's growing art scene. Visitors to the MIDFLORIDA Event Center can now immerse themselves in the beauty of the sculpture garden and become active participants in the symphony of sound and light created by the interactive sculptures.
