Starting on December 28, 2023, the City of Port St. Lucie is opening applications for the Affordable Housing Advisory Committee (AHAC). The committee aims to review and make recommendations for policies and procedures that affect the cost of housing in the city. The application window will remain open until January 28, 2024.
According to Florida State Statute 420.9076, the AHAC is responsible for evaluating established policies, land development regulations, and the city's Comprehensive Plan Policy. Their goal is to encourage and facilitate affordable housing while ensuring the appreciation of property values.
The AHAC is looking to fill eight positions, as well as two alternate member positions. The committee is seeking individuals from various specializations related to affordable housing, including those engaged in the residential home-building industry, banking or mortgage industry, labor, advocacy for low-income persons, for-profit and not-for-profit providers of affordable housing, real estate professionals, and members of the local planning agency.
Applicants must be residents of Port St. Lucie and should apply online by January 28, 2024, through the city's website. The completed applications will be reviewed and presented to the City Council for their appointments at the March 2024 meeting.
The AHAC member terms are for two calendar years, and reappointment for subsequent terms is possible. The first meeting of the committee is scheduled for April 25, 2024, and a final schedule will be determined by the newly formed committee. The committee is expected to meet at least once a month between April and November 2024.
