Sheriff Mascara stopped at Walgreens store 4391 to thank Christy, the cashier who passed our recent alcohol compliance check. In collaboration with Drug Free St. Lucie, this yearlong operation tested over 125 stores. Of those, 106 stores were found to be in compliance and 20 were not.
"The goal of this partnership with Drug Free St. Lucie is for all stores that sell alcohol and tobacco be in compliance, and I am happy to announce yesterday’s operation found all 18 stores tested in compliance," said Sheriff Mascara.
According to Jovil Wharton, project coordinator with Drug Free St Lucie, "It is partnerships like this that allow the community to come together and truly curve the consumption of alcohol by our youth."
"With the holiday season upon us, we want to make sure all stores are being responsible and follow the law," said Sheriff Mascara. "When I approached Jeff, the Walgreens store manager, he was confident that his store had passed. Jeff went on to tell us about the policies and training Walgreens has in place to prevent the sale of alcohol and tobacco to minors. He wasn’t surprised but proud to know that all of the Walgreens tested here locally were in compliance."
According to Sheriff Mascara, "Since our goal is to decrease consumption of alcohol by youth, we will not be publicly identifying the stores found to be out of compliance. As we continue to work toward our goal of 100% compliance, know that we are checking."
