District Announces Controlled Open Enrollment School Choice Options for Next School Year

School

Martin County School District issued the following announcement on Feb. 22.

The Martin County School District has announced the Controlled Open Enrollment school options that will be available to both in-county and out-of-county families in the 2022-2023 school year.

In order to promote and encourage parental involvement and ensure students have access to a school that meets their needs, the Florida Legislature enacted Section 1002.31, Florida Statutes, which directs each school district to develop a controlled open enrollment plan. Plans adopted by each district school board and charter school must allow parents/caregivers from any school district in the state to enroll their child in and transport their child to any public school that has not reached capacity. The District determines schools' eligibility for its controlled open enrollment plan using the Florida Inventory of School Houses and a threshold of 75%.

In accordance with Chapter 1002.31, Florida Statutes, open choice in the Martin County School District is determined following data collection for Survey 3 (February 2022). For the 2022-2023 school year, families may apply to enroll their child(ren) in Citrus Grove Elementary School, Crystal Lake Elementary School, Hobe Sound Elementary School, SeaWind Elementary School, Hidden Oaks Middle School, Indiantown Middle School, Murray Middle School, Stuart Middle School and Jensen Beach High School.

Controlled Open Enrollment applications will be accepted March 1 - March 31, 2022. Families must complete and submit Form 407A as part of the application process. Families of students accepted into a controlled open enrollment school assignment must provide their own transportation to and from school. Per School Board policy, Martin County students are given priority over students who do not reside in Martin County. Students accepted into a controlled open enrollment school assignment may continue attending through the highest grade level offered on the campus. School assignments will be based on space available in the grade level requested as required by the class size amendment. Jensen Beach High School's controlled open enrollment will be limited to 100 seats (25 in each grade level). Families are encouraged to visit the Office of School Choice's website for more information.
