St. Lucie County issued the following announcement on Dec. 10.

The Susan Broom Kilmer Branch Library’s ArtSpace hosts works by Artist Sherry Newton Lumpkins, whose work honors her father, “The Original Florida Highwayman,”  Harold Newton.

Lumpkins has been an illustrator and painter in various mediums since age 7. When her professional art career began at 19, she was commissioned by private collectors, as well as the cities of Lauderhill and Coral Springs, Fla.

With more than three decades of creating art, one of her favorite accomplishments to date has been honoring her father’s legacy with “Harold Newton Tribute Art”. She has done this by creating oil paintings of Florida’s old world beauty, painting inviting warm skies with the towering yet delicate palm trees of  Florida landscapes, reminiscent of the style of her father. With this passion, Lumpkins continues the Newton Art Legacy.

Residents interested in displaying their artwork as part of the Kilmer Library’s non-commercial ArtSpace area should contact Librarian Delphine Newton at 772-462-2787 or newtond@stlucieco.org. This is not a commercial venue. Artwork is displayed for enjoyment purposes only.

The Susan Broom Kilmer Branch of the St. Lucie County Library System is located at 101 Melody Lane. For more information about programs visit: www.stlucieco.gov/Library.
