City of Stuart issued the following announcement on July 14.

The Florida Association of Counties (FAC) presented St. Lucie County Commissioners Linda Bartz, Frannie Hutchinson and Cathy Townsend with the Presidential Advocacy Award for their work during the 2021 Legislative Session at its recent Annual Conference in Orange County, Florida.

The FAC Presidential Advocacy Award recognizes county commissioners who have shown exceptional leadership in advocating with FAC during the 2021 session to advance counties’ legislative agenda and preserve home rule.

“This award is an honor and it recognizes the collective work the Florida Association of Counties does to advocate for our local residents at the state level,” said Bartz.

“It is an honor to be recognized by my peers statewide for work that not only benefits St. Lucie County, but can also help other counties. Continuing to advocate for our residents at the state level is an important mission,” said Hutchinson.

“Thank you to my colleagues for giving me the honor to serve.  FAC is a wonderful organization that I am proud to be a part of.  Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about dancing in the rain. I am looking forward to the dance,” said Townsend.

“Every day, our Commissioners work hard to tackle complex challenges and respond to the unique needs of their local area,” add FAC President and Palm Beach County Commissioner Melissa McKinlay. “Their consistent drive and dedication for their constituents is the reason we’re able to sustain our communities, and those that take the extra mile to advance the counties’ legislative agenda play a leading role in improving quality of life for all Floridians.”

For more than 85 years, the Florida Association of Counties (FAC) has represented the diverse interests of Florida’s counties, emphasizing the importance of protecting home rule – the concept that government closest to the people governs best. The Florida Association of Counties helps counties effectively serve and represent Floridians by strengthening and preserving county home rule through advocacy, education and collaboration.
