Residents, businesses, schools, and community groups will soon be recognized for their contributions to the natural environment of Port St. Lucie. The city is introducing the Naturally PSL Stewardship Awards Program, stemming from an innovation project supported by the Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative, the Bloomberg Center for Public Innovation at Johns Hopkins University, and the Centre for Public Impact. Insights gathered from residents highlighted the significance of green spaces.

The purpose of Naturally PSL is to increase awareness of the city's green spaces, offer updates on future projects, and collaborate with partners to improve and acquire land for green spaces.

Kate Parmelee, Deputy City Manager for Strategic Initiatives and Innovation, stated, "The Naturally PSL Environmental Stewardship Awards Program is now open for nominations." The City is calling for nominations from individuals, community organizations, school programs, volunteer groups, businesses, and schools in five award categories.

Details about the award categories, eligibility, and criteria can be accessed at CityofPSL.com/NaturallyPSL under the "Awards" section. The application deadline is May 5, and winners will be revealed on June 5. Port St. Lucie's leaders are eager to highlight those who work to safeguard and enhance the city's green spaces.

Through the Naturally PSL initiative, Port St. Lucie has identified 2,940 acres of natural areas within city limits and 744 acres for enhancement as green spaces. The city opened two new parks in 2024 and plans to open six more. It has identified 41.4 miles of trails, with 20.3 miles currently being planned. More information about planned trails can be found on the interactive trails map at www.cityofpsl.com/naturallypsl.
