Rep. Brian Mast of Florida's 21st district has been elected as the chair of the House Foreign Affairs Committee. Upon his election, Rep. Mast expressed gratitude and humility for the trust placed in him by his Republican peers. He emphasized that under his leadership, the committee will focus on putting "America First" with every dollar and diplomat.

Mast stated his intention to collaborate with President Donald Trump, National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, future Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Chairman Mario Diaz-Balart, and Speaker Mike Johnson to address foreign policy issues through a comprehensive reauthorization of the State Department.

Speaker Mike Johnson commented on the challenges faced due to what he described as "four years of failed, misguided foreign policy decisions from the Biden-Harris Administration." He expressed confidence in Mast's ability to work closely with the Trump Administration to reverse what he termed as American decline and restore strength on the global stage.

Johnson highlighted Mast's valuable experience on the committee and his perspective as a combat veteran injured in duty as crucial for understanding real-life implications of foreign policy decisions. He congratulated Chairman Mast on his new role and looked forward to beginning their work in the 119th Congress.
