The City of Port St. Lucie's Office of Solid Waste has announced that there will be schedule adjustments for garbage collection during the upcoming holiday season. In light of Christmas Day, all residents' collections will be delayed by one day.

To accommodate the closure of the St. Lucie County Landfill on Monday, December 25, the following schedule will be implemented for garbage, recycling, yard, and bulk waste collection:

- Monday's customers will be collected on Tuesday, December 26.

- Tuesday's customers will be collected on Wednesday, December 27.

- Wednesday's customers will be collected on Thursday, December 28.

- Thursday's customers will be collected on Friday, December 29.

- Friday's customers will be collected on Saturday, December 30.

Normal collection services will resume on New Year's Day, Monday, January 1, 2024, as the landfill will be open on that day.

In addition to the adjusted collection schedule, the City Convenient Drop-off Center, located on the corner of Cameo Boulevard and Crosstown Parkway, will be closed on December 24, 25, 31, and January 1.

To ensure a smooth curbside collection process, residents are advised to follow these guidelines:

- Place black garbage carts and green recycling carts at the curb no later than 7 a.m. on the designated pickup day, but no earlier than 6 p.m. the evening before.

- All household trash and garbage must be bagged and fit inside the black cart with the lid closed. If an additional cart is needed, residents can call the Office of Solid Waste at 772-871-1775 and press 5.

- All clean and dry recycling should fit inside the green cart with the lid closed.

- Maintain a distance of three feet between carts, yard waste, and bulk piles and any obstacles that may obstruct the collection truck, such as carts, mailboxes, utility poles, trees, and fire hydrants.

- Ensure that the cart handle faces the house, and the lid openings face the street. After service, all carts must be promptly removed from the curb.

Residents are reminded that yard waste is limited to one 4 cubic yard pile per week at the curb, with branches not exceeding 4 feet in length, 6 inches in diameter, and 50 pounds in weight per piece. Loose debris should be placed in a container or paper bag, while palm fronds of any length are accepted. Additionally, Christmas trees can be recycled by placing them curbside on the weekly yard waste collection day. However, it is crucial to remove all lights, tinsel, ornaments, and tree stands, as the trees will be mulched rather than disposed of at the landfill.

Bulk waste is limited to 2 cubic yards per month at the curb on the scheduled collection day. Accepted items for bulk trash pickup include appliances, furniture, carpets, mattresses, and toys. For those who cannot wait for their collection day, a free estimate can be requested by calling 1PSL at 772-871-1775 and pressing 5.

As the holiday season approaches, the City of Port St. Lucie's Office of Solid Waste is taking necessary measures to ensure a smooth and efficient waste management process. By adhering to the adjusted collection schedule and guidelines, residents can contribute to a cleaner and more sustainable community.
