Adults Can Learn Something New at St. Lucie County Libraries

Make a New Year’s resolution to learn something new with help from St. Lucie County Libraries as they offer a variety of programs for adults.

Adult programs for January include: 

  • Get Ready to Write a Short Story on Saturday, Jan. 7 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Morningside Branch. Want to write a short story? Learn about: Characters, structure and topics.
  • Beginner Sewing Class (Part One) on Tuesday, Jan. 10 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Hurston Branch. This two-part beginner class will consist of sewing machine basics, terminology and a finished take-home project. Best suited for ages 16 and older. No registration required, but space is limited.
  • Adult Video Game Tournament on Saturday, Jan. 14 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Lewis Branch. Select your driver and your cart as you compete against others in Mario Kart on the Nintendo Switch.
  • HANDS Clinic Information Session and Mobile Health Bus Tour on Tuesday, Jan. 17 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Kilmer Branch. Learn about free primary healthcare resources available to qualified, low-income, uninsured adults in St. Lucie County. And, take a tour of the new the Mobile Health Unit bus.
  • Genealogy Lecture and Discussion: The Story of Anna Leonard (born 1794) on Tuesday, Jan. 17 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Lewis Branch.
  • Ukulele Jam on Thursday, Jan. 19 at 5:30 p.m. at the Morningside Branch. Held in partnership with the Treasure Coast Ukulele Club. Bring your instrument or check one out at the library.
  • Beginner Sewing Class (Part Two) on Tuesday, Jan. 17 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Hurston Branch. The second of this beginner class consists of sewing machine basics, terminology and a finished take-home project. Suited for ages 16 years and older. No registration required, but space is limited.
  • Financial Planning Workshop on Saturday, Jan. 21 from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Morningside Library. Start the New Year off right by planning for your financial future. In partnership with the Oasis Senior Advisers, learn about financial planning, basic legal documents and Medicare.
  • Art in the Afternoon on Thursday, Jan. 26 at 5 p.m. at the Lakewood Park Branch. Tile Art at your library. Create a masterpiece to decorate your home or office. All supplies provided.
Weekly Events for Adults:

  • Gardening Advice at the Morningside Branch: Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 1 to 3 p.m.
  • Writer’s Workshop at the Morningside Branch on Thursdays at 9 a.m.
  • Off the Hook Crochet session at the Hurston Branch on Thursdays from 4 to 5:30 p.m.
Don’t forget the library has specialized equipment available, from sewing machines at the Hurston Branch to 3D printing and vinyl cutting equipment at the Lewis Branch.
