Don’t let technology ruin your New Year. St. Lucie County’s Library System offers a variety of free technology training classes, from using smartphones to accessing online services that provide free streaming music and movies. In addition to the scheduled classes, all six branch libraries offer one-on-one technology assistance by appointment.
Scheduled classes for January include (advanced registration is not required):
- Wednesday, Jan. 4 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. - Introduction to Hoopla: Free movie and TV streaming service at the Kilmer Branch, 101 Melody Lane in Fort Pierce. In this hands-on session, staff will show you how to create a free account with your library card to access free streaming movies and shows. Please be sure to bring your card and your own device.
- Friday, Jan. 6 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. - Introduction to Cricut at the Kilmer Branch, 101 Melody Lane in Fort Pierce. We’ll explore the various features of a Cricut machine, including how to make a “Shaker Card.”
- Friday, Jan. 6 at 2 p.m. – Let’s Talk About Android (Part One) at the Lakewood Park Branch, 7605 Santa Barbara Drive in Fort Pierce. Did you get a new device for the holiday? Join us to learn about the basic features and functions of your Android device.
- Tuesday, Jan. 10 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. - eBooks & Media at the Lewis Branch, 2950 SW Rosser Blvd. in Port St. Lucie. Learn how to get eBooks, audiobooks and Hoopla streaming videos on your iPad or Kindle, free with your library card. Please bring your own devices.
- Wednesday, Jan. 11 from 3 to 5 p.m. – Apple Basics at the Pruitt Campus Library, 2950 SW Rosser Blvd. in Port St. Lucie. You will learn helpful tips and tricks to navigate an Apple tablet or phone. Learn how to navigate the home screen, use apps, browse the web and more.
- Saturday, Jan. 14 at 2:30 p.m. – Downloading Music with Freegal at the Morningside Branch, 2410 SE Morningside Blvd. in Port St. Lucie. With Freegal you can download music and more that’s yours to keep. Learn how to use this resource, free with your library card.
- Friday, Jan. 20 at 2 p.m. - Let’s Talk About Android (Part Two) at the Lakewood Park Library, 7605 Santa Barbara Drive in Fort Pierce. So, you’ve mastered the basics of your Android. Now, it’s time to step up to the next level and learn more about the workings of your Android device.Saturday, Jan. 21 from 2:30 p.m. - Computer and Laptop Basics at the Morningside Branch, 2410 SE Morningside Blvd. in Port St. Lucie. Are you completely new to computers or have trouble using them? This class covers the basics from powering it on to file management.
- Wednesday, Jan. 25 from 3 to 5 p.m. – Android Devices at the Pruitt Campus Library, 2950 SW Rosser Blvd. in Port St. Lucie. You will learn about the different features and functions of your Android device.
- Thursday, Jan. 26 at 2:30 p.m. – iPhone: Building on the Basics at the Morningside Branch, 2410 SE Morningside Blvd. in Port St. Lucie. This class is for you if you’ve mastered the basics of your iPhone and want to learn more. Learn how to close apps, update your device and more.
- Saturday, Jan. 7 from 2:30 to 4 p.m. at the Paula Lewis Branch Library, 2950 SW Rosser Blvd., Port St. Lucie.
- Thursday, Jan. 12 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the Lakewood Park Branch Library, 7605 Santa Barbara Drive, Fort Pierce.
- Saturday, Jan. 21 from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at the Hurston Branch Library, 3008 Avenue D, Fort Pierce.
- Saturday, Jan. 28 at 2 p.m. at the Morningside Branch, 2410 S.E. Morningside Blvd. in Port St. Lucie.
A reminder that all St. Lucie County Libraries have expanded Wi-Fi available from the parking lot 24 hours a day; seven days a week.
