Finish Out the School Year With Family Time at St. Lucie County Libraries

As students get excited for the end of the school year, St. Lucie County Libraries remind parents that there are plenty of learning opportunities year round at the six branch libraries.

Children and family activities for May include:   

  • S.T.E.A.M. Power! Explore the world of science, technology, engineering, art & math in a storytime. Most suited for students kindergarten through 5th grade.
    • Lakewood Park Branch – Thursday, May 5 at 3:30 p.m.
    • Hurston Branch - Saturday, May 7 at 3 p.m.
    • Morningside Branch - Saturday, May 7 at 2:30 p.m.
    • Lewis Branch - Saturday, May 14 at 2:30 p.m.
  • Movie: “Straight Outta Nowhere: Scooby Doo! Meets Courage, the Cowardly Dog” (2021) on Saturday, May 7 at 2:30 p.m. at the Lewis Branch. Scooby and the gang visit Nowhere, Kansas, home of Courage the Cowardly Dog. When our heroes discover a strange object, they must use their courage to solve the mystery. With a running time of 73 minutes, this animated feature is rated PG.
  • S.T.E.A.M. Storytime at the Kilmer Branch on Friday, May 13 & 27 at 10:30 a.m. Explore the world of science, technology, engineering, art and math in a storytime. Most suited for ages 3-6.
  • Bilingual Storytime. Enjoy a bilingual storytime in both English and Spanish.
    • Morningside Branch (all ages) on Thursday, May 12 at 10:30 a.m.
    • Lewis Branch on Friday, May 20 at 10:30 a.m. (Most suited for ages 3-5 years)
  • Movie: “Clifford the Big Red Dog” (2021) on Saturday, May 14 at 2:30 p.m. at the Morningside Library. A young girl's love for a tiny puppy named Clifford makes the dog grow to an enormous size. With a running time of 97 minutes, this animated feature is rated PG.
Walk-In Programs at the Lakewood Park Library:

  • Grab n’ Go Project: A different fun craft every month. Best suited for ages 5-10. All materials supplied.
  • Color Your World: Stop by the library and pick up some coloring pages. All ages welcome.

    Walk-In Programs at the Lewis Library:

  • The Reading Adventurers Book Group - Come pick up the first book for the group: “The Accidental Apprentice” by Amanda Foody. Best suited for grades 3-5, participants will meet on Tuesday, June 14 at 2:30 pm to discuss the book and do a craft.

    Tweens and Teens:

  • Tween Techies on Tuesday, May 3 from 2:30 to 4 p.m. at the Lakewood Park Branch. Join us for some robot fun with coding technology. Best suited for ages 8-12.
  • Zine Scene on Saturday, May 14 at 3 p.m. at the Hurston Library. Zines are self-published booklets created by cutting and gluing art, images and text onto a master for photocopying. No experience is necessary, but if you are a zine maker please join us and share your work. All supplies will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own. Best suited for students in grades 8 and up.
  • Teen Book-a-Tech at the Lewis Library on Saturday, May 14 at 2:30 p.m. and Thursday, May 26 at 6:30 p.m. Get individual technology introduction to the Teen Multimedia Studio. Learn about Adobe Photoshop Elements 14, Adobe Premiere Elements, Mixcraft Pro Studio, Hue Animation and more. Get help with a project using the Teen Multimedia Studio software. Best suited for ages 11 – 17.
  • Pokken Tournament DX on the Switch on Saturday, April 23 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Lewis Branch. Tekken meets Pokémon in the battle royal. Most suited for ages 11–18.
  • Young Teen Time: All materials supplied. Best suited for kids in grades 5-8.
    • Create magic paper art cubes at the Morningside Library on Wednesday, May 18 at 3 p.m.
    • Duct tape tulip pens at the Lewis Library on Saturday, May 21 at 2:30 p.m.
  • Pokken Tournament DX on Switch on Saturday, May 28 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Lewis Library. Who will be victorious? Best suited for ages 11 – 18.
  • Super Smash Bros Brawl on Tuesday, May 31 at 2:30 p.m. at the Morningside Library.Test your skills against other players. Most suited for teens ages 11-18
  • Off the Chain Crochet for Teens every Tuesday from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the Hurston Branch. Do you know how to crochet or would you like to learn? Our teen program is open to all skill levels.
  • Tween Tech Challenge at the Lakewood Park Library: Stop by during regular hours for a chance to test your skills with computers and technology. The challenge takes about an hour and can be done at your leisure.
  • Mad Libs at the Lakewood Park Library: Drop in during regular hours to create a short, wacky and fun story based on the words you plug into your template.
Weekly Programs:

  • Just Baby & Me on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. at the Lewis Library and Thursdays at the Lakewood Park Library. Songs, stories and movement - fun for you and your baby. For infants up to 2 1/2 years.
  • Rhythm & Rhyme Storytime on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. at the Morningside Library. Early literacy through rhymes, stories, movement and more. For ages 2 1/2 years and older.
  • Storytime Jam - Reading & Rhythm at 10:30 a.m. - Clap, dance and listen to stories. For ages 3-5.
    • Tuesdays at the Lakewood Park Library
    • Wednesdays at Kilmer Library
    • Thursdays at the Hurston Library
    • Fridays at the Morningside and Lewis Libraries
  • Music & Motion for Kids at 10:30 a.m. Action songs, movement, singing, instruments and fun for ages under 6 with caregiver.
    • Wednesdays at the Port St. Lucie Library
    • Thursdays at the Lewis Library
    • Fridays at the Lakewood Park Library
    • 3rd Saturday of the month at Morningside Library
