City of Stuart issued the following announcement on Aug. 25.
The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (FDEO) has announced the availability of $175,000,000 in the second round of funding for the Rebuild Florida Mitigation General Infrastructure Grant Program to fund mitigation projects in impacted communities. The City of Stuart is interested in applying for one Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (FDEO) Rebuild Florida Mitigation General Infrastructure Program grant totaling $4,732,613 in funding for the development of an Alternative Water Supply System. This funding is matched with $20,819,799 from sources including a recently awarded Florida Department of Environmental Protection State Revolving Fund Loan, State of Florida Appropriations, and the City of Stuart Water Availability Fee Revenue.
The Alternative Water Supply System project will include the construction of a new reverse osmosis (RO) membrane water treatment plant, construction of wellhead and pipelines, and modifications to existing deep injection well IW-2. The requested $4,732,613 will provide funding for the structural hardening of the RO plant building, furnishing and installation of a generator housed in a hardened generator building, and all associated electrical work. The proposed work is a large-scale mitigation activity with regional benefit that will alleviate current vulnerabilities and increase the reliable, resilient, and safe supply of drinking water for the City of Stuart. The project will allow the City’s water system to better withstand emergency-related challenges and all proposed construction will meet current Florida Building Code and standards to ensure that the facilities are hardened against future severe storm events.
The City is seeking FDEO grant funding for this project, as the project is an unfunded need the City has that is a critical element of the City’s utility mitigation strategy. The public is invited to provide comments on the above project and grant opportunity until September 10, 2021. Please provide your comments or submit a request for a copy of the grant application to Tim Voelker, PE Utilities & Engineering Director at phone: 772-288-5332 or email: tvoelker@ci.stuart.fl.us.
