Stuart/Martin County Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on July 16.
Martin County Commissioner Doug Smith, District 1, recently received the Presidential Advocacy Award from the Florida Association of Counties (FAC), for his work during the 2021 legislative session.
The FAC Presidential Advocacy Award recognizes county commissioners who have shown exceptional leadership in advocating with FAC during the 2021 session to advance the legislative agenda and preserve home rule.
"Every day, our Commissioners work hard to tackle complex challenges and respond to the unique needs of their local area," said FAC President and Palm Beach County Commissioner, Melissa McKinlay. "Their consistent drive and dedication for their constituents is the reason we're able to sustain our communities, and those that take the extra mile to advance the counties' legislative agenda play a leading role in improving quality of life for all Floridians."
Commissioner Smith has proudly served the Martin County community on the Board of County Commissioners for over 20 years and has represented Martin County with the FAC in various capacities throughout his tenure. "Moving local initiatives forward at the state level is critical to ensuring our community receives the financial and legislative support necessary to strengthen and adapt," said Commissioner Smith. "It has been my distinct pleasure to serve the FAC, Martin County residents and Floridians across the state, and I'm truly honored to have received the FAC Presidential Advocacy Award this year," he continued.
