County of St. Lucie issued the following announcement on Jan. 14.

Trained volunteers will be providing free tax preparation assistance at six locations, including three libraries, throughout St. Lucie County starting in January.

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers free tax help to people who make $57,000 or less. IRS-certified volunteers provide free basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals. AARP tax help is free assistance that is targeted at low to moderate income taxpayers. While the focus is on taxpayers 60 or older, the volunteers don't turn anyone away because of age.
