As the holiday season nears, the City of Port St. Lucie has announced changes to its trash collection schedule following the holidays. In addition, city officials are preparing for the groundbreaking of Torino Regional Park, a 195-acre project aimed at expanding recreational opportunities in the area.
The official groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, December 9 at 11 a.m. at 5601 North Torino Parkway, between NW Conley Drive and Delcris Drive.
Torino Regional Park will be the largest park in Port St. Lucie and was developed with input from local residents. The design features a “Play Forest” concept inspired by Florida’s natural landscape. Planned amenities include a playground with forest-themed pods and an interactive water feature accessible to visitors of various ages and abilities.
“Our residents have told us they want more access to green spaces – places where families can come together, neighbors can connect and everyone can enjoy the vibrant beauty of our community,” said Mayor Shannon Martin. “Torino Regional Park will be exactly that: a space designed for connection, activity and enjoyment of the outdoors that make Port St. Lucie such a special place to live.”
The initial phase of construction will focus on establishing foundational infrastructure and several key amenities such as playgrounds, splash pads, walking and biking trails, and open green spaces.
Residents interested in viewing plans for Phase 1 can take a virtual tour highlighting these features through an online fly-through rendering provided by the city.
Port St. Lucie is recognized as a fully integrated community with high homeownership rates and diversity among its population, according to its official website. Spanning 121 square miles with a population of approximately 260,000 people, it is Florida’s third-largest city by land area (source). The city has also earned national recognition for transparency and community engagement efforts (source).
