The Florida Chapter of the American Planning Association (APA Florida) has named three finalists for the 2025 Great Places in Florida People’s Choice Award. The award recognizes public spaces that contribute to community connection and identity.
Floridians can vote for their preferred finalist from September 3 through September 26 at florida.planning.org/greatplaces. The winner will be announced in early October, coinciding with National Community Planning Month.
One of the finalists is Mayors Park, a community hub that underwent a $1.8 million revitalization. Improvements include a shaded trail around the lake, bike lane connections, a dog park, playground, outdoor fitness center, shaded pavilions, and an F-16 fighter jet display honoring local military history. Youth volunteers and partnerships with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission support stewardship efforts at the park.
Palm City Place & Patio is another finalist. This 20-acre site features green zones, trails, a fishing pier, concrete ping pong tables, chess and checkers areas, picnic seating, and a multicolored fountain. It serves as a neighborhood anchor with regular events and demonstrates community-driven redevelopment.
Pioneer Park in Port St. Lucie is also among the finalists. Located along the North Fork of the St. Lucie River and developed as part of The Port District Master Plan, Pioneer Park offers a 3,200-foot boardwalk made entirely from recycled materials that connects multiple parks and retail centers. Amenities include an overwater stage, canoe and kayak launch sites, open-air event spaces, renovated historic homes, and an inclusive playground. Since opening in June 2024, Pioneer Park has attracted more than 417,000 visitors seeking recreation and engagement with nature.
