The City of Port St. Lucie is set to host a Juneteenth event aimed at honoring history and fostering dialogue. The event, titled “Juneteenth: A Celebration of Unity,” will occur on Thursday, June 19, at the MIDFLORIDA Event Center from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
This public event will feature performances, storytelling, and discussions to celebrate Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, which marks the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. Port St. Lucie Mayor Shannon Martin emphasized the significance of the occasion by stating, “Juneteenth offers an opportunity to reflect on the importance of freedom, engage in meaningful conversations and embrace the diversity that makes Port St. Lucie one of only two fully integrated cities in the United States.”
The program includes dance performances and a community panel discussion. It will conclude with a keynote speech by Dr. Wintley A. Phipps, a renowned vocal artist and motivational speaker who has dedicated his career to education activism through his work with the U.S. Dream Academy, Inc.
Dr. Phipps has been influential in transforming lives within communities affected by incarceration and currently serves as a senior pastor at Palm Bay Seventh-Day Adventist Church. His work has gained recognition on platforms such as Saturday Night Live and Super Soul Sunday (OWN), along with multiple Grammy nominations.
