The Whispering Pines neighborhood in Port St. Lucie is set for a renewal with nearly $20,000 in Love Your Block mini-grants awarded to 19 recipients. The City of Port St. Lucie made the announcement today regarding the first round of mini-grant winners for the Love Your Block program. This resident-driven initiative is aimed at revitalizing neighborhoods through small-scale projects that aim to have a lasting impact on the community.
The City received 32 applications from residents, businesses, and community groups suggesting creative solutions to local issues. These groups will collaborate with city government to enhance neighborhoods and public spaces. The initiative is supported by the Bloomberg Center for Public Innovation at Johns Hopkins University, which aims to unite city leaders and residents to foster stronger neighborhoods incrementally.
The 19 projects selected in Whispering Pines are committed to community pride, beautification, and civic engagement, aligned with the City’s Strategic Plan to foster neighborhood engagement in building a Smart and Connected City. Mayor Shannon Martin stated, “As Port St. Lucie continues to invest in resident-driven solutions, Love Your Block plays a vital role in fostering collaboration between local government and community members. By providing mini-grants and hands-on support, the program helps residents transform public spaces, strengthen neighborhood connections, and build a greater sense of ownership and pride in their communities. I extend congratulations to all the award recipients and express gratitude to the city’s partners and residents, and to the Bloomberg Center for Public Innovation at Johns Hopkins, for making this initiative possible.”
The projects funded by the mini-grants are expected to be completed by mid-August. Additionally, Love Your Block also provides grants for City-led public projects. The upcoming phase for Whispering Pines will concentrate on such projects, guided by input from residents and community members.
