The Orlando After-School All-Stars has been named the recipient of the 2024 Hewell Family Fame for Fitness Award, receiving a $5,000 check. The award was presented by Florida Sports Hall of Fame President Ginger Kane to Madison Iferd, Marketing and Development Manager at Orlando After-School All-Stars.
Orlando After-School All-Stars originated from Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Inner City Games and now provides before-school, after-school, and summer programs to more than 4,000 middle and high school students each year. The organization aims to improve academic achievement, reduce juvenile crime rates, promote healthy living, foster civic leadership, and expand career opportunities for underserved youth in the area.
Programs offered by ASAS include STEM education, athletics, health and wellness activities, art enrichment, and academic readiness. In addition to these core components, the organization offers club-based activities that help students explore personal interests while developing social and cultural skills. These clubs are available during both the school year and summer months and feature performing arts, leadership development opportunities, athletic sports leagues, physical fitness sessions, and health education.
The curriculum used by ASAS is designed to engage young people throughout the year so they can develop life skills as well as confidence needed to become responsible citizens at home and in their communities.
“Every day we strive to ‘level the playing field’ for youth and bridge the achievement gap to success,” said representatives from Orlando After-School All-Stars.
