The Martin County Sheriff’s Office announced on May 12 that a traffic stop for speeding on Interstate 95 resulted in the seizure of more than 31,000 illegal pills and the arrest of Zolton Otto Ganoczi, a Hungarian national who authorities said was in the U.S. illegally.

Aggressive Driving Unit Deputy Nicholas Thomas pulled over the vehicle after observing it speeding. During the stop, deputies said Ganoczi showed signs of impairment, including profuse sweating, rapid speech, a stutter, and dilated pupils. Deputies also found that Ganoczi had suspended driver’s licenses from both New York and Florida, according to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office.

An inventory of the vehicle before towing revealed a clear baggie containing suspected methamphetamine in the driver-side door. Deputies later found more than 31,000 pills concealed inside mail-style envelopes hidden in a container in the trunk, according to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office.

Recent traffic stops in western Martin County have resulted in multiple arrests and seizures of fentanyl, methamphetamine, firearms, and drug paraphernalia as deputies target drug and weapons trafficking routes moving through the area, according to CBS12 News.

Nationally, the Drug Enforcement Administration seized approximately 44 million fentanyl pills, nearly 65,000 pounds of methamphetamine, and more than 201,500 pounds of cocaine in the first half of 2025, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

The Martin County Sheriff’s Office is a full-service law enforcement agency serving Martin County. Sheriff John Budensiek was sworn into office on Jan. 7, 2025, according to the agency.
