Residents are encouraged to make informed decisions when it comes to protecting their property from the threat of flooding. Such decisions could include retrofitting homes, investing in flood insurance, and preparing for future flood events.

In an effort to facilitate these choices, the City of Port St. Lucie has released two important reports: the Local Mitigation Strategy Progress Report and the Program for Public Information Evaluation Report. These documents, produced by the St. Lucie County Unified Local Mitigation Strategy Working Group, aim to assist residents and are available on the City’s flood information website at www.CityofPSL.com/Flood. Interested individuals can find these reports by clicking on the “Annual Reports” section.

Port St. Lucie has been actively involved in the National Flood Insurance Program’s Community Rating System (CRS) since 1991, which acknowledges public outreach initiatives. As a result of the City’s participation, a significant improvement in its CRS rating was achieved in 2023. This enhancement has led to residents enjoying a 10-25% reduction in flood insurance premium renewals, contingent upon the City’s ability to maintain this rating.
