Effective May 14, the City of Port St. Lucie’s Convenient Drop-Off Center has updated its operating hours to align with the county’s landfill schedule. The center will now be open from Wednesday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Three city employees were recently recognized at the American Public Works Association’s Florida Public Works Expo in Orlando for their contributions to public works. Colt Schwerdt, Director of Public Works and City Engineer, was named Professional Administrative Manager of the Year for his leadership within one of Florida’s dynamic public works departments. Schwerdt has been involved in various roles within the city and is active in both the APWA Treasure Coast Branch and the Florida Engineering Society.
Robert Carlsen, Drainage Supervisor for Public Works, received the Orange Heart Medal Award for his service during emergency situations. Carlsen initiated donation drives and supply drop-offs across St. Lucie County following hurricanes Helene and Milton, which led to substantial donations from across the country.
Summer Burdick, Accreditation and Performance Manager for the Utility Systems Department, was awarded the Young Leader Award for her role in helping Utility Systems achieve full accreditation from APWA in 2024.
Additionally, the Treasure Coast branch of APWA received the President’s Award for Branch Excellence due to its efforts in member services and community commitment. The City of Port St. Lucie maintains active involvement with APWA through staff participation on its Executive Board.
