A new boardwalk in Port St. Lucie is now open, providing continuous access along the North Fork of the St. Lucie River from Rivergate Park to a preservation area. The final segment of the Boardwalk at The Port District was installed under the Port St. Lucie Boulevard Bridge on June 25 and opened to the public on August 8.
The completed boardwalk measures about 4,300 feet, with the last section connecting its north and south ends spanning 704 feet. This addition improves riverfront accessibility and recreation opportunities for residents and visitors.
“We are committed to creating accessible, welcoming public spaces that bring people together,” said Port St. Lucie Mayor Shannon Martin. “These are places where neighbors can connect, families can enjoy nature, and everyone can feel a sense of belonging right in the heart of our City. It’s especially meaningful to see this final piece put in place—connecting our residents directly to the river in a way that’s both beautiful and lasting.”
The project included repairs to sections damaged by Hurricane Milton and raised the boardwalk’s elevation from two feet above high tide to six feet. This change is intended to make it more resilient during storms and help restore local ecology by increasing shade for seagrass growth along the shoreline.
The opening of this boardwalk follows other recent developments in The Port District, which began operations in June 2024.
